Our team generally did a good job during the whole process though there were a bit discussion chaos happened in between; we considered it was a part of the brain storming process. Initially, we went through the first 3 steps at the same time. We defined our goal by evaluating our test objects and their properties. We drafted two plans. Then we evaluated two plans with their scenarios to the egg case and found one of them is more likely to achieve the achieve the best result though there is still opposite opinions. Among two plans, we chose the best one by a group vote. After that, we had a quick discussion on building method and immediately afterward we started constructing process. During the process, the whole team automatically distributed tasks among us. One delivered the tape, two and sometimes three built the egg-protector. While the rest of the team gave advises and provided necessary hand support. In conclusion, we went through all 5 steps though we did follow exact order because the time frame constrain and high team discussion flexibility within the group. Our planning process was effective because our whole constructing period did not involve much discussion rather than actions that focus on building up the device. However, we could have been done perfectly if we just had one person keep focusing on the time available through the whole planning process so that we may speed it up a bit more. The final unpleasant pitch of disqualification because of unexpected “home run” of our project presenter, depressed some of our team members, who were as well dedicated, or spend even more energy and enthusiasm to this project. Off the record, I just found our team fell into a typical ethical dilemma—what is the right thing to do? Let the late team (which is not mean to be late but because of an outlawed run back) to try their project and grant success if successful, or disqualify them because the seconds of lateness has made which according to rule, does sound correct. If it is you, how you are going to decide, do you think professor gave the right decision to this team? Right or Wrong, Make your choice.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for your group. I think it is hard for the professor to not disqualify you though. Only because if you let one group slide then many other groups may do the same thing. It is unfortunate that things didn't work out but overall it was still a fun project.
ReplyDeleteI think we did a better job than other teams as we proved that our plan worked.. kinda disagree on the comment above... cos things did work out.. all the other teams had to take scrambled eggs back home... I would say teams did great, had fun that is all that matters... Chances slide in and out... no big deal... in life... cheers
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised by your group's design. It was very innovative, definitely original! As far as disqualification, I thnk you should get partial credit since your design did work :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice job from your group...very nice plan but you did only not succeed , also your group missed the deadline !!! ...I believe you should not get such a chance as professor have granted you..because it was a competition with other projects and also the rules of the game must be meet and respected (think in the business wise how much will cost a company to miss its deadline )... is that was part of the project also.?..... :-))
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of your comments, I appreciate it :)
ReplyDeleteYea, that's what people would choose as a simulation of the real world.
Yet, when people comes to real business world, depend on how you do it, there is always a way to get around with it as long as it not against law in a literal way. People, do not forget that we are human, not machines. We do have schedule to meet yet we can not assure that non of us will make "zero" mistake.
Don't you think?
:)
I noticed that you said your group casted a vote. I think that is a great idea considering groups are made up of people with differing opinions. That is the fairest way to choose what the majority of the group wants. Maybe if my group casted a vote we would have had a better model and plan.
ReplyDeleteI thought your teams idea was great and feel like you guys shouldn't have been disqualified. Although it was a class project we weren't really competing against each other so there were some people that seemed really upset that he let you compete and it confused me because it wasn't like if you succeeded it would have any effect on them. Just as if they needed an extra 5 seconds I think they would have wanted it. But all in all it was in good fun.
ReplyDeleteHello, Scott:
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, sometime the competition could make one over-aggressive toward others though it might not be that serious in concern. But, yes, regardless the incident, the class was fun over all and provided us a great opportunities to learn.
Hope to talk to you soon again.
Best and peace
I think what the professor was trying to prove when enforcing the time limit so strictly is to stress the importance of not only good planning but good planning in a timely manner. I think that your group did well working together based on what you have written. I think we all struggled with managing our group, adapting to each other's personalities, time management. THe fact that we didn't really pick our groups also made this experience all the more challenging. In a real work situation we often do not get to pick who we work with, but we are given objectives we must satisfy. All things considered, this was a very good learning experience.
